“Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July, Mandela’s birthday.” Wikipedia
This year celebrating the day was really tough as we continue to find creative ways to navigate the global pandemic, Covid-19. The number of covid-19 infections is at an all time high with Gauteng now leading with the number of cases there we had to deliberate on whether or not to continue with the plan to visit the school or find a digital solution. After lots of discussions, we agreed that a visit to Ephes Mamkeli Secondary School in Wattville would be more impactful given the fact that the matriculants where already attending classes from Monday – Saturday, the speakers for the day were keen to deliver the message face to face. Our Founder, Jabulile Gwala was one of the speakers & program director. Sasha-lee Olivier Weight, Miss South Africa 2019, Kaizer Motaung-Jnr, Former Kaizer Chief’s Striker where the keynote speakers.
The session was in partnership with In Good Company, Brand South Africa, Official Miss SA, Kaizer Motaung Jnr Foundation and Eastgate Shopping Center. The day’s objective was to inspire learners and encourage them to play their part in their school. The learners received bursaries from Boston Media House, goodie bags from Brand SA & Siko Republik and had a chance to engage one on one with all the speakers. It was a truly magical day of giving and sharing with one another. Meals were provided by Nu-bread Bakery.
